Breeding Cherry Barbs - The Setup
Breeding Cherry Barbs December 1st, 2006
Now that all 3 of the main tanks are up and running I’ve decided to try breeding cherry barbs. I’ve done some research over the past few weeks and based on the information I’ve gathered it seems they are the best fish to start with out of the fish I want to populate the 55 gallon tank with.
Although I’ve never bred barbs before I have had quite a bit of success with various types of Corys and I’m reasonably confident that I can have similar success in this endeavor.
So, on to the setup. I had two 10 gallons tanks setup in the basement that I had been using to grow extra Java Moss so I decided to use those. I stripped down the tanks, discarded the substrate and scrubbed them clean. I kept the heaters (50W Visi-Therm Stealth) and replaced the existing filters with standard sponge filters to make things more fry-friendly. The temperature in both tanks is at 76 deg. Java Moss was added to serve as a spawning media.
